We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Image Scientist to join our aerospace engineering team. This role will lead research and development initiatives that advance imaging technology for EOI Space’s VLEO constellation. The position requires deep expertise across multiple imaging phenomenologies—optical, infrared, multispectral, and hyperspectral—and a strong ability to test, validate, and refine sensor technologies.  

As a Senior Image Scientist, you will play a key role in shaping how imaging research translates into real-world impact, working collaboratively with cross-functional teams, including the principal software architect, hardware engineers, and mission planners. Responsibilities

  • Expertise in simulation platforms such as DIRSIG and other modeling tools to generate synthetic datasets for sensor design and testing 
  • Drive research into electro-optical remote sensing for our current sensor with expansion into new phenomenologies  
  • Develop and execute validation protocols to assess sensor performance once in orbit 
  • Research adaptive algorithms to enhance real-time processing and operational flexibility 
  • Conduct research and imaging phenomenologies – the initial focus is optical with potential for IR, multispectral, and hyperspectral 
  • Work closely and collaboratively with our principal software architect for building repeatable processes and best-in-class techniques for image enhancement, noise reduction, and data fusion that are efficient and scalable within our on-board hardware configuration 
  • Align pre-launch and in-orbit activities with mission goals, focusing on impactful real-world applications that align with the product goals 

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in optics, engineering, physics, or a related field is required, with a graduate degree strongly preferred 
  • 7+ years in imaging science with demonstrated expertise in pre-launch and in-orbit validation of imaging systems with emphasis on EO payloads 
  • Proficiency in Python and Jupyter notebook for data analysis, simulation, and algorithm development 
  • A minimum of five years working in a large, complex, interdependent organization that includes engineering and related functions. ​

Compensation

  • The anticipated compensation for this position is $160,000-$200,000/yr, depending on previous experience
