We are seeking a highly experienced AI&T Lead. This role is responsible for developing, coordinating, and ensuring the successful completion of the assembly, integration, and test campaign(s) constituting EOI Space’s overall engineering objectives.  

The primary goal of the AI&T Lead is to allow EOI’s engineers to build a complex space vehicle while balancing systematic rigor with the nimbleness befitting a young, exciting company. As such, this role will be heavily focused on building robust systems to record and communicate test data and ensuring the proper handling of engineering and flight hardware throughout the development process. 

This role will perform a broad assortment of responsibilities, including hands-on AI&T operations, coordinating and scheduling work activities, and writing and organizing documentation. The AI&T Lead will be involved in every level of engineering development, ranging from component-level to fully integrated system-level activities. This role works closely with engineers (electrical, mechanical, RF, systems, etc.) and technical staff to understand and facilitate each individual AI&T need. Finally, ensuring proper documentation is being generated and stored throughout the process will be a key aspect to this position. 

This role requires an individual with a strong technical background and a willingness to learn, as the responsibilities bridge across many engineering disciplines. Additionally, the person in this role should have strong interpersonal skills in coordinating with people, both internally and externally (e.g., fabrication vendors, test houses, etc.) The person in this role must be organized so as to progress multiple AI&T efforts simultaneously and ensure their timely completion. While this position will certainly involve hands-on technical work, the primary goal of the AI&T Lead is to pave the way for engineers and technicians to establish procedures, collect and process test data, and ultimately ensure that all of the complex, interconnected systems of a space vehicle are correctly integrated prior to launch.  

Responsibilities

  • Develop custom software and hardware tools to aid in data collection, data processing, results documentation & summary 
  • Specifying and selecting test equipment for in-house testing 
  • Engaging/coordinating with out-of-house testing vendors 
  • Engaging/coordinating with machine shop/fabrication vendors for GSE development/fabrication 
  • Effectively prioritize tasks by coordinating with REs and the Director of Space Segment to adhere to the overall program schedule. 
  • Plan, document, and support the implementation of AI&T setups and procedures across multiple engineering disciplines by collaborating with REs and understanding their specific needs. 
  • Streamline test data collection and processing through the use of automation tools. 
  • Develop documentation templates and organizational schemes to allow engineers to focus on technical work.  
  • Interface with vendors to receive quotes and purchase equipment, assemblies, and piece parts needed for AI&T activities. 
  • Verify that purchased equipment meets specs/requirements upon delivery from vendors. 
  • Assist in the preparation and deployment GSE/STE hardware to ensure the success and reliability of the spacecraft and its subsystems. 
  • Establish and generate process and proper-use documentation for consistency in future programs. 
  • Provide oversight and technical guidance by instructing pertinent staff on the proper handling of test, engineering, and flight hardware. 
  • Foster positive relations with vendors by communicating via email, phone, or face-to-face interactions, including facility tours. 
  • Determine the suitability of COTS items and materials for use and deployment by reviewing internal and external technical specifications.  
  • Hold and participate in engineering design reviews with other members of the engineering team to optimize designs and maintain internal qualities and standards. 
  • Verify design suitability by reviewing internal and external analyses. 

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, related engineering discipline, or equivalent. 
  • 5+ years of professional engineering experience, with 3+ of those years focused on spacecraft/satellite applications.  
  • Proven leadership and managerial skills, with a strong focus on facilitating independent work from ICs. 
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication abilities. This includes written communication as well as face-to-face interactions. 
  • Proven organizational skills and the ability to maintain multiple projects simultaneously. 
  • Demonstrated mastery of mechanical and electrical first principles. 
  • Demonstrated knowledge and use of ASME and aerospace engineering standards. 
  • Familiarity with various manufacturing methods (traditional machining, CNC, additive manufacturing, etc.) 
  • Familiarity with engineering best practices regarding aerospace mechanical/structural design. 
  • Experience with testing and operating electronics and electromechanical assemblies. 
  • Familiarity with developing custom testing automation scripts & data acquisition. 
  • Experience with rapid prototyping and testing to verify proof-of-concept designs. 
  • Familiarity with spacecraft operational & survival environments (vibe, thermal, etc.) 

Compensation

  • The anticipated compensation for this position is $135,000-$175,000/yr, depending on previous experience.
